Meet Courtney Watson
Hi, I’m Courtney—a Certified Nurse Midwife, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, and founder of Cardinal Way Midwifery. I’ve spent nearly two decades walking with women and families through some of life’s most tender, transformative moments. First as a labor and delivery nurse, and now as a midwife supporting births in homes, birth centers, and everywhere in between.
I became a midwife because I wanted more than just a moment in the room—I wanted to be there for the whole story.
“As a nurse, I was there for the labor. But I never got to see what came next. Did they get support afterward? Did they have more babies? Were they okay? I missed the continuity—and I wanted to be part of the whole journey.”
Founder, CNM / WHNP
That longing for deeper connection is what birthed Cardinal Way. I created this practice so people could receive care that isn’t rushed or clinical—but rooted in trust, presence, education, and autonomy.
My training spans the best of both worlds: a solid foundation in medical science, with a deep respect for the wisdom of the body. I earned my nursing degree from UT Arlington and completed my midwifery training at Georgetown University, where I studied under the people who literally wrote the book on midwifery. But the real learning happened in living rooms, tubs, and birth centers—watching what unfolds when people feel safe, seen, and in charge of their birth experience.
Midwifery care is grounded in the belief that birth is a normal, physiologic process—not a medical event. My role is to protect that process, stay present, and guide you with evidence, intuition, and respect for your body.
Whether you choose home birth or a birth center, midwifery care is personal, continuous, and centered on your choices. It’s about knowing your provider, feeling heard, and being empowered in your birth experience.
"If you want to get through labor unmedicated, you need someone who’s seen it hundreds of times—on purpose, not by accident."
Midwifery care isn’t about hoping for a specific type of birth—it’s about preparing for it with intention and expertise. I’ve seen unmedicated labors unfold again and again, and I can guide you with the experience and tools to make your vision a reality.
I’m not here to push a particular type of birth—I’m here to guide you toward the one that feels most like yours, with evidence, wisdom, and love.
